Finish Well: Your Study of the Word of God
II Timothy 2:15 and II Timothy 3:15-17
Last week we looked at the importance for us as Christians to, as Paul did in our text of II Timothy chapter 4 to finish well. To in whatever it is we do in this life to do it well and to the honor and glory of God. We saw that it is important for us as Christian young people to decide now what kind of a Christian we’re going to be and be it. After we looked at the first 8 verses of chapter 4, we than defined five areas that are important for us to finish well in and take seriously.
1. Your Study of the Word of God
2. Your Supplications (prayers) to the Lord
3. Your Service to the Lord
4. Your Soul Winning of the Lost
5. Your Separation from this World
Over the next few weeks we are going to look at each of these areas more in depth and see from God and His Word just how important they are to us as Christians. We start today with studying the Word of God. We see that we should finish well in our study of the Word of God because:
– All Scripture is given by inspiration of God. (God breathed, therefore it is true)
– It is profitable for:
a. Doctrine (It teaches us)
b. Reproof (It convicts us)
c. Correction (It corrects, restores us)
d. Instruction in Righteousness (Trains us in that which is right)
– That the man of God may be:
a. Perfect (Complete)
b. Throughly Furnished Unto all Good Works (Perfectly furnished, ready)
This is what effective Bible study will do for you and your life but you must commit to it. Set aside the time, be sure that you are attentive and ready for God to speak to you. Study at a time when there are no chances for distractions. Take your Bible study time seriously. It’s important to both you and your growth as a Christian. Make Bible study a major priority in your life. Finish well: your study of the Word of God!
